| FOREWORD |

In Japan which depends on imports for most
of its primary energy supply, cogeneration
has grown more important and is widely expected
to spread for the efficient use of energy
and for the prevention of global environmental
problems.
Cogeneration Research Society of Japan was
founded as a research body in 1985 for the
investigation and research on cogeneration
systems and for the promotion of cogeneration
technology. Upon its founding, 67 cogeneration
systems with total capacity of 200,000 kilowatts
were in operation in Japan. As of March 2005,
as many as 6,100 systems were in operation
with capacity totaling 8million kilowatts.
Technology has steadily advanced for improving
system performance, reducing environmental
pollution, introducing prefabricated systems
and lowering costs.
The Society has so far investigated energy
demand, developed methods for assessing cogeneration
systems upon their introduction and conducted
basic investigation and research on cogeneration
systems in operation, where we collected
and analyzed data. Through these activities,
The Society has provided you and other members
with useful information.
As social conditions are being developed
for cogeneration, the Society is renamed
Japan Cogeneration Center. We are determined
anew to further promote the diffusion of
cogeneration systems in cooperation with
foreign relevant organizations and contribute
to global environment conservation. We are
willing to expand our activities in general
to better help you.
